On 03/10/2024, BHC Deputies responded to a report of a deceased individual that was found on a sandbar of the Cedar River between Gilbertville and La Porte City.  Preliminary investigation shows that a male subject was canoeing alone on the Cedar River and made a campsite on a sandbar to sleep overnight.  The campsite included a bonfire, which it appears at some point the individual may have tripped into the bonfire and caught fire, he was found deceased. 

The name of the individual is not being released at this point and an autopsy will be conducted by the Iowa State Medical Examiner.
